NiTO Wooden Bricks
A modular solid timber construction system
NiTO Wooden Bricks are an innovative solid timber building system developed in Germany.
The system uses precision-manufactured interlocking timber blocks to create substantial timber walls using a simple, repeatable construction method. The blocks are designed to reduce complexity on site while retaining the natural appearance, strength and environmental benefits of solid timber.
NLT Contracts is supporting interest in NiTO across the UK and Ireland and is exploring future routes for supply, technical support and local production.

What is NiTO?
NiTO is a patented modular timber construction system based on interlocking solid wood elements.
The blocks are assembled in courses using shaped timber connections and wooden fixings. This creates a highly understandable construction process that is closer to traditional masonry in its sequence, while retaining the benefits of engineered timber construction.
The system has been developed to provide:

The modular format may make NiTO particularly attractive for smaller projects where simple site assembly, local labour and clear construction sequencing are important.
Simplicity & Sustainability
Many engineered timber systems are delivered as large factory-manufactured panels requiring specialist lifting, transport and installation.
NiTO takes a different approach.
Smaller modular timber elements can be assembled progressively on site, potentially making the system accessible for smaller contractors, self-builders and projects with limited site access.
The final building still requires a complete design approach, including:

Building Regulations approval
NiTO forms the structural timber wall system and would normally be incorporated into a complete designed building envelope.
Current UK availability
NiTO currently holds German DIBt approval.
The manufacturer is working towards additional international certification, which NiTO states is expected later in 2026. Until this process is complete, projects outside Germany need to be considered individually and may require project-specific review by the structural engineer and relevant building-control authority.
UK product supply, pricing and technical support arrangements are also still being developed.
